How to verify WhatsApp on a temporary United Kingdom number in under a minute

  1. 1

Pick a live United Kingdom number

Every number above carries the +44 dial code and supports WhatsApp. Choose one that has received a message recently, because that is the clearest signal you have that it is still delivering.

  2. 2

Copy it in full international format

Tap the number to copy it with +44 included. Take care not to enter the dial code twice, and not to add the leading zero that local dialling uses, because it is dropped in international format. Those two mistakes cause more failed codes than anything else.

  3. 3

Paste it into WhatsApp and request the code

Open WhatsApp, set its country selector to United Kingdom, then paste the number in — without the dial code if the app has already filled it in — and ask it to send you the verification code.

  4. 4

Read the code in the inbox

Return to the number’s inbox page here, and you will find messages appearing the moment they land without you having to refresh. If it is slow, give it a minute and then have WhatsApp resend.

Why a local United Kingdom number specifically for WhatsApp?

Services that only accept United Kingdom lines

Some platforms restrict signup to local numbers. A +44 line lets you register from wherever you happen to be in the world.

The code lands in real time

The moment WhatsApp sends the OTP, you will see it appear in the number’s inbox without refreshing anything and without waiting around.

Your own line stays out of it

Hand WhatsApp a temporary United Kingdom number instead of your real line, and your own stays out of marketing lists and the next data breach.

No signup, no card, no SIM

We will not ask you for an account, an email address or payment details, and there is nothing for you to install. Open the page and use the number straight away.

How a temporary United Kingdom number works with WhatsApp

The numbers above are real lines registered under the +44 dial code. They run on our servers rather than on a SIM in your pocket, and we publish their inbox here for you. All you have to do is enter one wherever WhatsApp asks you for a phone number, and the verification code will show up within seconds.

This page is the intersection of two things: United Kingdom numbers on one side, WhatsApp support on the other. If you need WhatsApp on a number from somewhere else, or a local United Kingdom number for a different app, the grids further down will take you straight to the right page.

What to know before you start

These numbers are public, meaning many people use them at once and any visitor is able to open the inbox and read what arrives there. Two practical consequences follow from that, and most competing pages mention neither:

  • The line may already carry an WhatsApp account. Ask for a code and you can land in somebody else's session, or be asked for a password you never set. When that happens, move to a different number.
  • Your code may be read by someone else. Anyone with the page open at that moment sees your message. A public line is therefore only ever suitable for a signup you would not mind losing.

That is true of every public number on the internet, ours included, and we say it plainly because knowing it up front will save you a run of failed attempts. If the account genuinely matters, a private number — reserved for you alone — is the right tool, and that is the only real difference between what is free here and what is paid.

Will a public number pass WhatsApp specifically?

That varies enormously between apps, and it depends far less on the number's country than on the platform's own policy. You will find the specifics for WhatsApp — code length, how it is delivered, the known failure modes and the realistic odds — set out immediately below, and in full on the WhatsApp page linked from the top of this one.

United Kingdom phone number format and the +44 dial code

A UK mobile starts with 07 domestically; internationally you drop that zero and put +44 in front: 07911 123456 becomes +44 7911 123456. Every British mobile begins with 7 after the dial code. The classic mistake is writing +44 07911 with the zero still there — those messages never arrive.

United Kingdom mobile networks

Every genuine United Kingdom mobile number belongs to one of these networks:

  • EE
  • O2
  • Vodafone UK
  • Three

Knowing the network matters for two reasons: some local services only accept particular operators, and delivery speed varies between them. If one number receives nothing, try one on a different network before giving up.

Who needs a local United Kingdom number, and why?

A UK number is what unlocks anything restricted to Britain: Deliveroo, Gumtree, Depop and British retail accounts. It is also what people outside the UK need in order to buy or sell on British marketplaces that insist on a +44 line.

Platforms that gate signup on a +44 number

These are well-known services that ask for a local United Kingdom line at signup or verification:

  • Deliveroo
  • Just Eat
  • Gumtree
  • Vinted UK
  • Depop
  • Tesco Clubcard
  • Argos
  • BBC iPlayer

One important caveat: banks, e-wallets and government portals reject virtual numbers almost without exception, because those accounts are tied to a verified identity. The free numbers here are for ordinary signups and one-off verification — never for anything attached to your identity or your money.

Brand names above are listed for identification only. Receive SMS Live is not affiliated with any of them and does not guarantee that any of them will accept a temporary number.

How WhatsApp verification actually works

Odds on a public number: poor. Free public numbers usually fail on this app, and we would rather say so than promise otherwise. The reason is below; the fix is a private number that has not been used before.

WhatsApp sends a 6-digit code by SMS. After a short countdown it offers to “call me” and read the code aloud — that option is useless here, because these numbers receive SMS only and take no voice calls. Always stay on the SMS option.

When you enter the number, drop the leading zero after the dial code: +20 10…, never +20 010….

What usually stops you

  • The previous holder’s two-step PIN. WhatsApp lets an account holder set a six-digit PIN on the number. If whoever used this line before you enabled it, WhatsApp asks for that PIN immediately after the code arrives and you cannot continue — and the reset takes days. On public numbers this is the single most common failure.
  • Virtual-range blocking. WhatsApp is among the most aggressive platforms at detecting and rejecting virtual and shared numbers. It is, without question, the hardest app on this site.
  • “Too many attempts, try again later.” Repeatedly requesting a code on the same line triggers a cool-down. Switch numbers instead of retrying.

Be aware too that registering the number on your device moves the account to you and logs the previous holder out — which also means the next person to register that line logs you out. An account on a public number is not an account you keep.

Once you are inside the account

If registration does go through, do two things immediately: enable two-step verification with a PIN you keep, and add a recovery email. Note that linked devices (WhatsApp Web and Desktop) do not need the number again once they are paired.

WhatsApp code not arriving?

  1. Wait one to three minutes. An SMS usually crosses several networks before it lands.
  2. Re-check the format. Make sure +44 appears exactly once, that the leading zero is gone, and that WhatsApp's country selector is set to United Kingdom.
  3. Request the code again from inside WhatsApp — the new one arrives in the same inbox here. Do not fire off more than two or three requests a minute; apps throttle a line that is hammered.
  4. Try a different number. Public lines get burned over time. If a number receives everything except WhatsApp, it is WhatsApp that has blocked it.
  5. Try another country. WhatsApp sometimes blocks a whole +44 range for a period while numbers elsewhere keep working — the country grid below takes you straight there.

Can I use it for a second WhatsApp account?

Yes, and it is the most common reason people look for a temporary United Kingdom number in the first place: a second account kept apart from their personal line. A number here is well suited to that, as long as the second account is a throwaway — a trial, a separation of work from personal, a signup you would rather not attach to your own number.

One distinction matters enormously, though: creating a new account on a temporary number is not the same as moving an existing one onto it. Some guides suggest swapping your real account over to a virtual line. With a public number that is dangerous advice — the line can be retired or reissued, and your route back into the account goes with it. Never move an account you own onto a number you do not.

Before you use the number

  • Never receive bank codes or wallet confirmations on it.
  • Do not make it your recovery method, because a temporary line can disappear tomorrow and take your only route back into the account with it.
  • Turn on app-based 2FA the moment you are inside, and add an email address you control.
  • And remember the inbox is public — never use it for anything you would not post publicly.

United Kingdom Numbers for WhatsApp, Telegram and Every Other App

Frequently asked questions about United Kingdom numbers for WhatsApp

Are these United Kingdom numbers really free?

Yes, completely free. You will not be signing up, giving us an email address or a card, or installing anything. The only thing you would pay for is a private number — one reserved for you alone, whose inbox nobody else can read.

Can other people see the WhatsApp code I receive?

Yes. These are public numbers — anyone who opens the page reads every message that arrives, including your code. Never use them for anything sensitive.

What is the United Kingdom dial code and how do I enter it in WhatsApp?

The United Kingdom dial code is +44. Set WhatsApp’s country selector to United Kingdom, then paste the number exactly as it appears here — every number on this page is shown fully formatted and ready to copy, so you never add the dial code, or a leading zero, by hand.

Why is WhatsApp asking me for a password I never set?

Because the line is public and somebody registered on it before you and switched on two-factor authentication. There is no way past that, and there should not be — the account is not yours. Pick a different number from the list above and start again.

Why is the WhatsApp code not arriving on this number?

Four common causes: a formatting mistake, ordinary network delay, WhatsApp having blocked that specific line after heavy use, or WhatsApp refusing the +44 range for a period. Try another number first, then another country.

Can I use the same United Kingdom number for other apps?

Yes — one line receives from any service that sends to it. But a number used heavily on one platform gets blocked there sooner, so pick a different one for each account that matters.

Can I keep the number for account recovery later?

No. The line is temporary by design and can be retired at any time. The moment you are inside the account, enable app-based 2FA and add an email address you control — together they are your only way back.

Do I need a SIM card from United Kingdom, or to travel there?

You need neither. The lines run on our servers and their messages appear in your browser, so you can use a local United Kingdom number from wherever you happen to be in the world.

Are these real numbers or randomly generated?

They are real and live. These are working lines under the +44 dial code that genuinely receive SMS, and the only difference is that they terminate on our servers instead of on a handset.

What is the difference between the free numbers here and a paid one?

A free number is public: many people share it, its inbox is open to everyone, and it may already carry an WhatsApp account. A private number is reserved for you alone for as long as you hold it — nobody else reads its messages and nobody else competes for it. Use the free ones for throwaway signups and a private one for any account you intend to keep.
