How WeChat verification actually works
Odds on a public number: poor. Free public numbers usually fail on this app, and we would rather say so than promise otherwise. The reason is below; the fix is a private number that has not been used before.
WeChat sends a 6-digit code — but with WeChat, the SMS is not the hard part.
The code alone will not finish the job
Creating a new WeChat account usually requires an existing user to scan a QR code and vouch for you. WeChat imposes conditions on that person: their account must be reasonably old, have a payment method bound to it, and not have vouched for anyone recently. So the code can arrive here perfectly and you still stop at this step.
WeChat is also among the strictest platforms about virtual numbers, and Chinese (+86) lines are the smoothest with it.
Once you are inside the account
If you do complete registration, know that WeChat binds the account tightly to the number: an account opened on a public line cannot be recovered later.

- Wait one to three minutes. An SMS usually crosses several networks before it lands.
