What to know before you start
These numbers are public — many people use them at once, and any visitor can open the inbox and read what arrives. Two practical consequences follow, and most competing pages mention neither:
- The line may already carry an Telegram account. Ask for a code and you can land in somebody else's session, or be asked for a password you never set. When that happens, move to a different number.

German mobiles start 015, 016 or 017 domestically; internationally you drop the zero and prefix +49: 0176 12345678 becomes +49 176 12345678. Length varies between 10 and 11 digits after the dial code.

Who needs a local Germany number, and why?
Germany is a strict verification market: Kleinanzeigen, Check24 and Lieferando all want a German line. "German phone number" is a heavily searched term worldwide precisely because so many German services are closed to anything but +49.

How Telegram verification actually works
Odds on a public number: mixed. Free public numbers work some of the time here, and this app has one specific failure mode. Read it before you try.
Telegram sends a 5-digit code. After a countdown it offers a voice call that reads the code aloud — no use here, since these lines receive SMS only.
The thing nobody else tells you about Telegram
This is the number-one failure mode on public numbers and no competitor page mentions it: if a Telegram session is already logged in on that number, Telegram does not send an SMS at all — it delivers the code in-app to that session. Because these lines are public and have been used before, someone else may still hold a session on one, in which case they receive your code and you receive nothing.
The tell is on screen: you tap “send code” and Telegram says it sent it to the Telegram app rather than by SMS. When you see that, move to a different number immediately — waiting will not help.
What else stops you
- The two-step verification password. If the previous holder set a cloud password, the SMS code alone will not get you in.
- Range blocking. Telegram is more tolerant of virtual numbers than WhatsApp, but it is not wide open and some ranges are refused.
Once you are inside the account
Once you are in, two settings hide the number from everyone: set a @username so people can message you without knowing your number, then go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Phone Number and choose “Nobody”. After that, enable two-step verification with a password you keep.
Telegram also supports several accounts inside the same app, so a second identity needs neither a second device nor a second SIM.
Telegram code not arriving?
- Wait one to three minutes. An SMS usually crosses several networks before it lands.
- Re-check the format. Make sure +49 appears exactly once, that the leading zero is gone, and that Telegram's country selector is set to Germany.
- Request the code again from inside Telegram — the new one arrives in the same inbox here. Do not fire off more than two or three requests a minute; apps throttle a line that is hammered.
- Try a different number. Public lines get burned over time. If a number receives everything except Telegram, it is Telegram that has blocked it.
- Try another country. Telegram sometimes blocks a whole +49 range for a period while numbers elsewhere keep working — the country grid below takes you straight there.
Can I use it for a second Telegram account?
Yes, and it is the most common reason people look for a temporary Germany number in the first place: a second account kept apart from their personal line. A number here is well suited to that, as long as the second account is a throwaway — a trial, a separation of work from personal, a signup you would rather not attach to your own number.
One distinction matters enormously, though: creating a new account on a temporary number is not the same as moving an existing one onto it. Some guides suggest swapping your real account over to a virtual line. With a public number that is dangerous advice — the line can be retired or reissued, and your route back into the account goes with it. Never move an account you own onto a number you do not.
Before you use the number
- Never receive bank codes, wallet confirmations or account recovery on it.
- Do not make it your recovery method — a temporary line can disappear tomorrow.
- Turn on app-based 2FA the moment you are inside, and add an email address you control.
