A US number is written as +1, a three-digit area code, then seven digits — ten digits after the dial code, e.g. +1 415 555 0123. The area code identifies the region: 212 and 917 are New York, 415 San Francisco, 305 Miami, 202 Washington DC, 310 and 213 California. How SnapChat verification actually works
Odds on a public number: good. Free public numbers usually work with this app. Pick one that received a message recently; if it is rejected, move to the next.
Snapchat sends a 6-digit code. Before it sends anything it usually runs a bot check (an image puzzle or similar) — complete that first, or no SMS is ever dispatched.
Email signup is available. The number is used for account recovery and for finding friends through contacts.
Once you are inside the account
Go into privacy settings and turn off “let others find me by phone number” — the line is public and may sit in the contacts of people you do not know. Then add an email address and enable two-factor authentication.
SnapChat code not arriving?
- Wait one to three minutes. An SMS usually crosses several networks before it lands.
