Verification Code Not Received? Work Through These Checks

A smartphone waiting for an SMS verification code while message routes are checked

Check where the code was sent and whether the number is accepted before repeatedly asking for another SMS.

A missing verification code can be a delivery-method problem, a number-format problem or a sender’s restriction. Start with what the service says on screen; repeatedly requesting SMS can make it harder to identify the newest valid code.

Check where the code was sent

Look for the destination shown after your request. The service may have selected email, an existing app session, an authenticator or a call. An SMS inbox cannot display a code delivered through those other methods.

Check the number and country code

Review the digits and selected country. If the country picker already adds a calling code, avoid entering it twice. Use the format requested by the sender, with the US format guide as an example of separating country, area code and local number.

Read number restrictions and retry timers

An invalid-number or unsupported-type notice is different from delayed SMS. Follow the sender’s instructions for that error. Wait for its retry timer before making another request, then use the newest code associated with your own attempt.

If you control the phone receiving SMS

Check whether ordinary texts can reach it, inspect message filters and confirm that the line is active with your provider. If delivery is failing beyond one app, the provider’s support can help distinguish a line issue from a service-specific restriction.

If you are reading a browser inbox

Verify that you opened the exact number used in the request and check the received time and sender. Use the inbox refresh control for delivered messages. If the page itself will not open, see the Receive SMS Live help center.

Before contacting support

Record the service, approximate request time and exact error wording. Share verification codes only in the account flow that requested them. A page link and description are usually enough to report an inbox-display problem.

Match the symptom to the next check

The service says the number is invalid

Inspect the full digits, country selection and stated line-type requirements. This is a validation step at the sender, so a working inbox cannot by itself resolve the rejection. Keep the precise error wording when seeking help from that service.

The service says the code was sent, but there is no text

Read the destination it shows. If SMS is selected, confirm you are looking at the same number and inspect the newest arrivals, including texts whose sender name you do not immediately recognize. A message from another app can make an inbox appear active without delivering the code you requested.

A text arrives, but its code is rejected

Match the message time to the request still open on your screen. An older code may have expired or been replaced by a later request. Enter the code in the correct service and account flow, then follow the sender’s available retry instructions if it remains invalid.

The page itself will not load or update

Separate the website problem from the SMS request. Try reopening the number’s exact link and check your browser connection. For a Receive SMS Live page issue, send the page URL, device, browser and approximate time through our contact form. The support description does not need your password or verification code.

For a number connected to your own phone

Check whether the problem affects all incoming SMS or only one sender. Confirm that the active line is the one the service is texting, especially if your device holds multiple SIM profiles. Review message filtering and the line’s status with your provider. If ordinary texts arrive but one verification service fails, report that distinction to the sender rather than repeatedly changing unrelated phone settings.
