How Signal verification actually works
Odds on a public number: poor. Free public numbers usually fail on this app, and we would rather say so than promise otherwise. The reason is below; the fix is a private number that has not been used before.
Signal sends a 6-digit code, with a voice-call alternative that is no use here.
Why Signal is a special case
- Registration Lock. Signal lets an account holder enable a Registration Lock PIN. If whoever used this line before you turned it on, you cannot register until a long inactivity period — up to a week — has elapsed.
- The account is bound to the number for life. Signal has no other recovery path: no email, no security question. Losing the number means losing the account permanently.
And there is a consideration that outranks the technical one: Signal is first and foremost a privacy tool, and a public inbox that every visitor can read contradicts the reason the app exists. Anyone who opens the number’s page can start a login to your account.
Once you are inside the account

- Wait one to three minutes. An SMS usually crosses several networks before it lands.

Can I use it for a second Signal account?
Yes, and it is the most common reason people look for a temporary Russia number in the first place: a second account kept apart from their personal line. A number here is well suited to that, as long as the second account is a throwaway — a trial, a separation of work from personal, a signup you would rather not attach to your own number.
One distinction matters enormously, though: creating a new account on a temporary number is not the same as moving an existing one onto it. Some guides suggest swapping your real account over to a virtual line. With a public number that is dangerous advice — the line can be retired or reissued, and your route back into the account goes with it. Never move an account you own onto a number you do not.
